Summer is one of the most beautiful times of the year here in the Pacific Northwest, especially for college students in the University District. After months of studying and exams, summer comes as a well-deserved break, full of fun memories soaking up the sun with friends while enjoying the unbeatable combination of pizza, beer, and summer sun.
Pizza is a mealtime favorite all year round, but some flavor combinations are more reminiscent of summertime than others. Here are a few of our favorite pizza combinations to enjoy this summer at Northlake Tavern:
Zesty Chicken Pizza
The ‘Zesty Chicken’ pizza is our unique twist on a classic backyard barbecue. We marinate our boneless chicken breast in BBQ sauce to top our Zesty Chicken pizza, followed by fresh mushrooms, garlic, sliced jalapenos, and onions, finished off with our signature ‘zesty’ sauce. For those who like a little kick in their pizza flavors, then this one’s for you!
Nothing reminds us more of a vacation on the beaches in Hawaii than our Maui Pizza. Chunks of Hawaiian pineapple and real Canadian bacon are generously sprinkled on our signature pizza dough, topped with fresh sliced mushrooms and green peppers. No matter which side of the pineapple pizza debate you’re on, this pie is a real winner.
Our most popular pizza here at Northlake Tavern is The Combo. This crowd-pleaser consists of Italian beef sausage, generous amounts of pepperoni slices, fresh mushrooms, and black olives. It’s a meat-lovers delight that’s sure to satisfy the hungriest of diners.
One of the best summertime combinations is pizza and beer. At Northlake Tavern, we proudly serve a huge selection of both local and imported beers. Each of our beers is hand-selected to give our customers the best dining experience possible, keeping in mind the all-important pairing of beer and pizza together. Our specialty pizzas featured in our restaurant are inspired by an old Italian recipe. After many episodes of trial and error, the original owner of Northlake Tavern made a bet that he could craft the best pizza in town. So a bet was made, and the recipe for our speciality pizzas was formulated; a recipe that we still proudly serve here today.
Our owner recalled eating a great pizza in an Italian restaurant owned by an old friend in New York. After receiving their traditional Italian recipe, he experimented with various kinds of toppings, cheeses, and crust recipes, until perfection was achieved, and the Northlake-style Pizza was born! He won the bet.
Since then, we have carried on the tradition of making our own special kind of pizza. We work hard everyday to make sure that each pizza ordered is a real tasty treat that you won't forget. Our restaurant uses only the freshest and finest ingredients available, such as real Canadian bacon, Hawaiian pineapple, and freshly-grated cheeses. Plus, our pepperoni and beef sausage is specially-ground to meet our very specific standards.
Northlake Tavern and Pizza House opened in 1954 at a site just a block west of its present location in Seattle, Washington. With the construction of the Interstate 5 Highway bridge, Northlake had to move to a location closer to the U District, where we are still proudly serving the community as a local pub, sportsbar, and pizza restaurant.
